Gary L. Booher, 79

Mr. Gary L. Booher, 79, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Edison Manor in New Castle following an illness with vascular dementia.

Gary was born in Ellwood City to the late Howard B. and Dorothy M. (Baney) Booher. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1959. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on August 5, 1960 and served with the Mortar Battery, 2nd Airborne Battle Group, 187th Infantry, 3rd U.S. Army until his discharge on August 2, 1963 with the rank of E-4. He was awarded the Parachutist Badge, Expert Badge (Rocket Launcher), Marksman Badge, and the Driver/Mechanic Badge.

Following his service with the army, Gary attended the Pasadena College in California. He later worked as a the owner and operator of Mipagikiam Trucking. An over the road truck driver for 60 years he logged more than one and a half million miles. An outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, car cruises, and Nascar.

He is survived by his wife, Diane (Persinger) Booher whom he married on December 29, 1984, his daughters, Virginia (Jim) Nielson of Carson City, NV, Kimberlee Booher and her companion Jen Amaya of San Jose, CA, and Amanda (Brian) Gardner of Ellwood City, his sons, Mitchell (Denise) Booher of San Jose, CA, and Patrick (Laura) Booher of Colorado Springs, CO, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Henrietta) Booher of Ellwood City, and David (Ruthann) Booher of Crossville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joann Bornman, brother-in-law, Ralph Bornman, and his best friend, Rusty Shaffer.

As per Gary’s wishes there will not be a public visitation. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..

Memorial contributions in Gary’s name may made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
