ECASD Board Names New President, Changes to 2021 Meeting Schedule

Ellwood City School District’s Board of Directors held their reorganization meeting Thursday evening where Director Jean Biehls was named president and Director Gary Rozanski was named vice president.

Biehls and Rozanski were the only directors nominated for their positions and both nominations were opposed by Director Jennifer Tomon. Director Erica Gray was not in attendance.

Biehls said she will make committee appointments in the next couple weeks.

The board also established a plan for the meeting schedule for 2021 and announced that meetings will be held on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays of the month.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, meetings will continue to be held virtually on Zoom.

The public is welcome to attend and can register for meetings on the school board tab of the district’s website.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

If you intend to address the board:

• You must connect via ZOOM
• You must connect with a device with a working microphone (camera is optional but recommended)
• You are required to remain muted until called on to speak.  Anyone not following this rule will be removed from the meeting.  Interruptions will not be tolerated.
• If you would like to speak please “raise your hand”, your hand will remain raised until you are unmuted to speak.
• The Board President will open the meeting for public comments twice per meeting – near the beginning and again near the end.  During these times, those who signed up to speak will be called on to unmute, state your name, and address the Board.

The Board of Education will meet as a “Committee of the Whole” on the Thursday prior to its regular meeting, except in April, July, and December to review the regular Board agenda at 7:00 P.M. The April, July and December meetings will be combined with the regular meeting. An executive session will be held immediately after each Committee of the Whole Meeting for the purposes provided for in Act 84 of 1986 and Act 20 of 1983 commonly known as the Sunshine Law.
