Chamber of Commerce Hosting Reindeer Route

Don’t miss your chance to take a ride on the Reindeer Route.

With Covid-19 cases rising, the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce was tasked to think outside of the box as how to continue the celebration of Christmas. After a brainstorming session, the Reindeer Route was the answer.

Families will be able to travel through town enjoying lights, decorations, and several beloved blow up characters all from the safety of their own vehicle.

Join the police led procession Saturday, December 5, at 5:30 p.m. on Glen Avenue.

Dale Thompson, director of the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce, said everyone is encouraged to wear their Christmas jammies and/or ugly sweaters. He said participants can also decorate their cars.

The route will tour Ellwood City and will end in Ewing Park. Along the way each portion will feature a sight to be seen. Lawrence Avenue will be full of cheer as businesses participate in a window decorating contest and the town’s Christmas tree will be lit at the Community Plaza. Luminaries will light the way along 4th Street. The finale will be a ride through Christmas in the Park and a treat.

“We knew we wouldn’t be able to have Let There Be Lights or the annual parade because of Covid,” Thompson said. “This event combines the two and allows for a Covid safe celebration.”

The Chamber is asking everyone to post pictures and videos from their journeys and tag them #ECREINDEERROUTE.

The Reindeer Route is sponsored by and made possible by: Inmetco, McElwain Motor Car Company, Ellwood City Forge Group, Wesbanco, Nalco Water, Armstrong and EC Borough, EC Police, and EC Fire Depts.
