Floyd “Bud” Garvin Worrell III, 69

Mr. Floyd “Bud” Garvin Worrell III, 69, formerly of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at his residence in Old Saybrook, CT.

Mr. Worrell was born on October 9, 1950 in Ellwood City to the late Floyd G. and Jean Louise (Curry) Worrell, Jr.. Bud had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1968, and then from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Following college, Bud was hired by Merck’s Calgon (now Nalco) organization starting as a process engineer up to manufacturing manager of Calgon’s largest plant. From 1988 to 1992 he was the plant manager at their San Francisco, CA facility, from 1992 to 1996 he was the plant manager at the San Diego, CA plant, 1996-1997 he was plant manager at the Liverpool, UK plant, 1997-2002 he became the director of manufacturing again at the San Diego, CA plant, 2003-2006 he was plant manager at the Montague, MI plant, 2006-2013 he was the director of operations at the Bronx, New York plant, and from 2015-2020 he was the director of manufacturing for Tower Labs in Centerbrook, CT.

Bud enjoyed traveling and exploring new areas to live, country music, walking, reading, especially history, family gatherings, and just hangin out in the kitchen making his “famous” Granola. His keen sense of humor and positive attitude was contagious and oh what a smile! Throughout his diverse manufacturing experience, he mentored many young professionals along the way.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (Mercuri) Worrell whom he married on June 3, 1972, his mother-in-law, Mary Lou (Rocco) Mercuri of Zelienople, his sister, Janna (Bill) Milburn of Ormand Beach, FL, his niece, Sashe Sulia and Andrew Tasler and great nephew, Gray of Bend, OR, sisters-in-law, Lynn (Bob) Gallaher of Beaver Falls, Marianne (Gary) Shiwarski, brothers-in-law, John (Sherrie) Mercuri of Illinois, Vincent (Jane) Mercuri of Pittsburgh, and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, Vincent H. Mercuri.

Details of a memorial service for Bud to be held in Ellwood City will be announced in the near future. Memorial contributions in Bud’s name may be made to the American Diabetes and American Heart Associations.

The local funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.
