Due to the new guidelines of mask requirements, the Stiefel Park Hockey summer session has been cancelled.
Originally, the decision had been made for the summer league to start after the 4th of July weekend, due to restrictions in Pennsylvania and many players traveling the country for vacations. They had to postpone the season originally due to the rink being located in Beaver County and weren’t even able to begin a season until the county entered the Green Phase. However, after the recent mask guidelines, the league was forced to cancel the summer season in hopes of being able to run a fall season.
“We have decided to cancel the summer session due to the new guidelines of mask requirements,” said Adult League Director Caleb Cragle. “Safety is important and we could not safely hold the season with the ever changing guidelines and cases of COVID.”
When games and practices do begin, there will be a few new changes to how things go. The major health consideration within a hockey league right now is to limit any and all unnecessary physical contact between people at the rink. Currently, players are no longer permitted to stay at the rink after the games because there will now be a built in 15 minute break in between games to limit the number of people within the facility.
However, if anything is to be changed with the safety guidelines, a season could commence.
“Players have already been told that their rosters will be archived and the fall session may begin early,” said Cragle.
Last summer, Turn4Toilets, Big Rigs and Goaldiggers collected championship in their respective leagues. (READ MORE) Big Rig’s Dylan Zelonka (29-34, 63 points, A League), Jimmy K’s Matt LeDonne (18-11, 29 points, B League), Live Wire’s Matt Lutz (19-18, 37 points, C League) led their respective leagues in offensive scoring.
