Ellwood City Borough Council Addresses Councilwoman’s Facebook Comment

Ellwood City Borough Council could vote on Monday to officially “disapprove” of a Facebook comment that was posted by Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera more than a month ago.

During Monday’s Council Agenda meeting Guerrera said it was a completely inappropriate comment that she regrets making.

The post appeared mid-April on a personal Facebook page of a former Ellwood City resident and was shared hundreds of times throughout the county. The comment said, “Best thing that could happen would be both of them getting it and dying, along with the rest of the elected officials of the Democratic party.” The comment was made on a post that included a picture of Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders bumping elbows instead of shaking hands in an effort to “social distance.”

Guerrera insisted the comment wasn’t meant to be harmful and was made before the true severity of the Coronavirus was realized. She referred to the viral sharing of her comment as a “smear campaign.”

The councilwoman said she has been in public service for more than 20 years including currently working in a long- term skilled nursing facility.

“I would never wish any harm to any person,” she said.

Guerrera said she will not step down from her council seat.

“If anyone thinks I am willing to step down … I am not,” she said.

Council President, George Celli, said although council cannot vote to remove Guerrera from her seat, they are able to make an official statement of disapproval.

“This council disapproves of what you said,” Celli stated.

Guerrera said she stands by council in their disapproval of the comment.

  1. Five corners in Ewing Park for years has been a beautiful site to admire when entering the Park. It is a disgrace to ride by now…it is sad to see how this area is junked up with wood structures…a pathetic sight to see!!
