Riverside School District Releases Statement Regarding Coronavirus

According to information made available on the district website, the Riverside Beaver County School District superintendent Bret Trotta released a statement this week regarding the coronavirus epidemic and what the district is doing to prevent any potential spread of the virus.

The statement reads:

We are writing today due to the recent news of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and want to inform you on how our schools are responding. Please trust that proactive steps are being taken on campus to help avoid an illness outbreak of any kind.

Teachers and staff members have been well informed of the PA Department of Health recommendations of the most effective ways to limit the exposure to viruses through the three C’s

COVER – any coughs or sneezes with your elbow. Do not use your hands
CLEAN – surfaces often, such as countertops, light switches, cell phones, and other frequently touched areas
CONTAIN – illness. If sick, stay at home until fever-free for at least 24 hours or longer as instructed by your medical provider.

In our schools, teachers are reviewing these procedures with students. In addition, RBCSD administrators have been in regular contact with county and state health agencies to receive the most current updates. We will follow their guidelines and directives for action and communications.

Our school nurses have been updated with information on how to respond to potential cases, and we have obtained necessary supplies. Our custodial staff continues to make surface cleaning a point of emphasis. Adequate handwashing facilities and alcohol-based hand sanitizers continue to be available through the schools for students and staff use.

If you have specific questions about school practices, feel free to contact your school nurse.

Sincerely,
Bret Trotta, Superintendent of Schools

I would like to keep my kids home for 3 weeks until this passes. Is that possible and how do I do this legally? I have a child that gets pneumonia and this corona virus is targeting the lungs. Please advise
