Riv-Ell Split: RHS Girls, LHS Boys Victorious

In what could amount to a collective draw between rival districts this week, the Riverside girls basketball team collected victory on Monday while the Ellwood City boys team was victorious last night.

Both home teams won their host games in the Riv-Ell match-ups.

For the girls, Panther Marley Wolf led all scorers with 15 points as the Lady Panthers (7-6 overall) raced out to a comfortable lead early and won 43-21 on Monday. Ellwood City was held to four point in the first half and collected only three field goals in the contest.  Kyla Servick finished with nine points for the Wolverines (1-11 overall) in defeat.

For the boys, the host Wolverines held on for a 57-50 victory over Riverside on Tuesday.  After leading by 15 points after three quarters, Riverside rallied with a 24-point fourth quarter, but could not overcome the deficit.

Four Wolverines (7-6 overall) reached double figures in a balanced offensive attack. Nate Coonfare and Milo Sesti each finished with 15 points while Ryan Gibbons (13 points) and Steve Antuono (10 points) chipped in offensively. Gibbons finished with three 3-pointers.

Nate Sciarro finished with a game-high 16 points in defeat for the Panthers (6-8 overall). Kevin Kolesar joined Sciarro in double figures with 14 points.

Each team finished with five three pointers while the Wolverines had a decisive advantage at the free throw line finishing 10-17 while the Panthers finished a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.

Rematches are set, as teams with battle in February with Riverside boys and Ellwood City girls hosting their respective rematches.
