The Ellwood City Lions Club proudly announces the community service project of the Lion Drinking Fountain installation at Sheeler Park and the purchase of the ADA accessible swing set for Rogers Park in Ellport.

The Lion Drinking Fountain community service project was in progress for a few years.  The Lion drinking fountain that was located in front of the Ellwood City Municipal Building on Lawrence Avenue for decades, was refurbished and reused in Ellport.  In 2014, due to its age and deterioration, the Lion fountain was removed and placed in storage.  New “baby” Lion drinking fountain was purchased and installed in its place in September of 2017.

Since then, the “old” Lion in storage was worked on by the Formed Fiberglass Co. and Fred Zeigler.  Then in June of this year, the “old” Lion was taken to McElwain Paint and Collision Center for painting, wh

ere Greg Elliott provided his magical talent of auto body painting into an animal form.  He amazingly duplicated the paint job of the “baby” lion in Ellwood and “grandpa” was no more, but siblings of Ellwood / Ellport family.

Ellwood City Lions Club would like to thank the above local business for their support, especially McElwain Paint and Collision Center for their donation to complete this community service project.  Additionally, the club is grateful to Patty Tomon and the Ellport Borough for their help in bringing the “old” Lion back to life.

A second project completed by the club offered ‘playground for everyone’ with an ADA accessible swing set, installed in Ellport’s Rogers Park.

Children play areas should be designed to challenge children of different ages and abilities according to the Lions Club press release.  At an inclusive playground, kids can learn to take risks together; none of them are left on the sidelines wishing they could participate.  For children who have mobility or other challenges, a handicap-accessible component within a playground allows them to experience the child play too.

So, the Ellwood City Lions Club was happy to purchase one accessible playground component for Rogers Park in Ellport, PA.  Double bay accessible swing set was selected to allow children of different age groups, 2-5 yrs old and 5-12 yrs old to swing at the same time, keeping them safe from falling.  The installation was completed by the Ellport Borough maintenance department.
