Mrs. Carrie Charlotte (DeCola) Scripsky, of Ellwood City, passed away on Sunday July 7, 2019 into the arms of Jesus at the age of 97 in Ellwood City.
To all who knew and loved her, she went by her nickname “Chickie.” She was born on Nov. 19, 1921 in Ellwood City to the late John and Maria (Battista) DeCola of Division Ave. A 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School, she married Samuel Ierace of Crescent Avenue. They had two children, Dominic Ierace of Pittsburgh, and Caren Levis of Ellwood City. Chickie was a lifelong musician, playing with her Uncle Curly Venezie’s band and teaching her son Donnie how to sing. Chickie was also a lifelong active member of her church, Christian Assembly of Ellwood City, where she played piano in the church orchestra for many years. She was also a member of the Dorcas Ladies Group. Chickie worked at Ellwood Dust Proof and later owned and operated a hair salon in her home. She was also the manager of Olympia Spa Beauty Salon. She did everything in life with love and had a sense of humor that stayed with her throughout life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters with whom she was very close, Elma Miano, Elizabeth DeTullio, Rose Gurgacz, and Adeline Piccione; and her husband John Scripsky of Ellport.
She is survived by her son Donnie, daughter Caren (Rick) Levis of Ellwood City, and 5 grandchildren, Erin Fusetti, Addy Molony, Carrie Levis, Ryan Levis, Jason Levis and 9 great-grandchildren, Mia, Jameson, and Samson Levis, Dominic, Samuel and Gianna Fusetti, Jackson, Chase and Lia Molony.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am with Rev. Matthew Bupp officiating at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery
The family would like to thank all of the care givers as well especially Norma, Mary Ann, Toni Ann, Rona Lee, and Kathy. Also, the Highmark Blue Cross Physician’s Assistant Brittany, Vitas Hospice nurse Sara and nurses aid Amanda, and the staff of the Beaver Valley Nursing and Northview Estates.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that contributions be made to the ASPCA or the Ellwood City Christian Assembly in Chickie’s memory.
