Unchained K9 is a new, underground dog fence company local to Ellwood City.
Dogs will wear a collar with radio frequency that alerts them when they try to approach/cross the underground wire. Owners Jim and Geri Lynn Cummings had come into this business on a whim.
They had an underground dog fence for 11 years prior, and when they got a new puppy, it needed to be serviced. They reached out to what was then PetSafe of Cranberry. When the owner came to service the fence, he had approached them asking if they were interested in purchasing the business. After meeting with the owner and his wife, they mentored him on the job before they decided to go for it and purchased the business, changing its name to Unchained K9.
“I wanted something to express that the dogs have the freedom and don’t have to be tethered or chained,” said Geri Lynn Cummings.
This business has become a side job for them. Geri Lynn is a full-time teacher at Riverside High School while her husband is a Supervisor at McCarl’s in Beaver Falls. Geri Lynn is in charge of taking calls, bookkeeping, and other jobs like those, while her husband is the one who performs the installations and service repairs.
“The nice thing about underground fencing is pet owners can keep their pets within their property and not worry about them running away,” said Cummings. “The wire can be put anywhere, so even if there is only a section of the property where the pets are meant to be, the owners have control over where that boundary line is.”
Their business card logo was designed by a former Riverside graduate, Ashley Hall. Hall has just recently graduated from Waynesburg with a degree in graphics.
