Gloria Giovannini, 92, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Northview Estates.
She was born in Ellwood City on March 5, 1926 to the late Filippo and Irene (Peuto) Giovannini. She was a teacher in the Junior High School in Ellwood City for 38 years teaching English, Literature, Reading and Remedial Reading. She was a graduate of Geneva College in 1948 and received an M.A. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. She retired from teaching in 1986.
She traveled widely in Europe and Russia. She spent much of her travels visiting relatives in Italy who she had not met before. In her later years, her travels took her through the United States.
She was an artist who enjoyed sketching and water color. She was loved and respected by her many students and fellow teachers.
She leaves her sister Velia Giovannini of Ellwood City, her brother, Colonel Max Giovannini (USAF Ret.) and his wife Dolores of San Antonio, TX, nieces, Sue (Patrick McCollom), Gloria (Jay Mitchell) , Regina (Lamar McCorkle), and nephew, Philip Giovannini Ph.D. (Sebastiana), cousins, Janet and Raymond Layshock, and David Gabutti, and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Joseph Giovannini.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 3-6 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Members of the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the Holy Redeemer Church on Tuesday by 9:45 am to form an honor guard for the Gloria Giovannini funeral mass.
Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Northview Estates for their loving care given to Gloria in her final days, with special gratitude to Ms. Karen Ruff.
