From Sunday, December 8 and into Monday, December 9, there had been a reported 10 incidents of vehicles being broken into in Ellwood City. As of today, however, police say there has been between 20-25 break-ins.
The thief or thieves have taken anywhere between $200 and $2 worth of items and change in each report.
These break-ins have been happening in the following areas: Meadowridge Drive, Skyline Drive, Aetna Drive, and York Street. The most recent reports that were released had break-ins on Massachusetts Street, Walnut Drive, Sunset Boulevard and another incident on Skyline Drive.
These break-ins were not forced due to all the vehicles being unlocked.
On Tuesday, December 11, Brittany Lloyd of Massachusetts Street reported that her white 2015 Nissan Rogue had been broken into with a couple dollars of change stolen. That same day, Ronald Pagley reported that his 2012 Chevey Impala and his wife’s 2014 Nissan Rogue had been broken into between 3:30 p.m on Monday the 9th and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 11th. The only thing stolen had been a bag of Boy Scout popcorn.
During the day on Wednesday, December 12, three reports came rolling in. Angela Jea of Walnut Drive, John Barton of Sunset Boulevard, and Ona Carroll of Skyline Drive. Jea claimed that her blue GMC Envoy was broken into with a couple dollars stolen out of it. Barton had claimed that two back packs, a red one and a blue one, had been stolen. The bags contained survival gear typically given to homeless shelters, and were in the backseat of blue Nissan Titan. Ona Carroll of Skyline Drive reported her purse, that was containing her wallet, along with a pair of blue pants had been taken from her black Toyota Rav. 4. Carroll claimed the bag itself had roughly $200 worth of items inside of it.
No suspects have been named, however police have released a short clip of who they believe is the suspect of one, many, or all of these car break-ins.
Ellwood City Police are asking everyone near or in these areas to please make sure they lock their cars no matter where they are or what time.
