Thelma Louise Figurel

Thelma Louise Figurel of Ellwood City, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 10, 2018, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

Born December 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Vollrath) Ferrese.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Raymond T. Figurel, her son Charles (Chuck) L. Figurel, and her brother Robert Ferrese.
She is survived by her daughters: Diane M. Linn of Ellwood City, Susan L. (Patrick) Byrne of Pittsburgh, Melissa A. Figurel of Ellwood City, and grandchildren: Taryn L. Byrne (fiancé Bill Hertzler) of Pittsburgh, Jocelyn R. Figurel (fiancé Justin Eidenmiller) of Pittsburgh, Brandon J. Byrne of Los Angeles, and Shane C. Figurel of Pittsburgh.

Thelma is also survived by her sister Dorothy Sudano, brother Joseph (Gloria) Ferrese, sister-in-law, Marjory Ferrese, all of Ellwood City, and sister Joanne Brandon of New Brighton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Throughout her lifetime, Thelma was employed by Dr.Thomas Wilson, Dr. Fred Obley, the Estee Organ Company, the Dietary Department of Ellwood City Hospital, and the Bakery Department of Food Arena.

Thelma has been blessed with many friends and would like to acknowledge her special friendship of over fifty years with Sandee and Chuck Houk of Ellwood City and that of Adele Naeser of Pittsburgh, whom she thought of as a fourth daughter.

Her passion was her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Thelma was a bright star who cared about people. Her random acts of kindness brought smiles and appreciation to many people.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 309 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City, PA. A mass of Christian burial will be officiated by Father Mark Thomas at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 15, 2018, Holy Redeemer Church, 415 Fourth Street, Ellwood City, PA. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family will kindly accept monetary donations to help with Thelma’s medical bills.
