William D. Foley, 79

Mr. William D. Foley, 79, of 111 Fourth St., Ellport, Ellwood City, passed away at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his wife of 55 years, his six children, two granddaughters, nephews and son-in-law.

He had also been in the company over the course of his monthlong stay in the hospital’s ICU by lifelong friends.

William was born Oct. 25, 1939, in Beaver Falls, the son of William E. and Lois C. (Gorman) Foley.

A 1958 graduate of Beaver Falls Area High School, William served honorably in U.S. Navy and married Rita A. Petro on Aug. 10, 1963.

William was a lifelong tool-and-die maker at steel mills or machine shops in Midland, Beaver Falls, Grove City and Meadville; and also worked at the Butler Auto Auction in Cranberry Township.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Sean R., of Tarentum; and William V., Robert J., Renee S. (Kevin) Schombert, Neil P. and Daniel M., all of Ellwood City; two granddaughters, Sara R. (Schombert) Rectenwald, of Pittsburgh, and her husband, Cory; and Jessica L. Schombert, of Pittsburgh. William’s first great-granddaughter is expected to be born in early December.

William is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-sister, Linda Sladewski; father-and-mother-in-law, Victor L. and Helen G. Petro; sister-in-law, Helen L. Otlowski; brother-in-law, Regis V. Petro; and daughter-in-law, Abby A. Foley.

William served as a volunteer with the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels program and with the Holy Redeemer Parish social services’ food pantry.

He was a social member of the Wurtemburg and Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Ellwood City Hungarian Club, the American Legion and the Riverside Lions.

William was an avid outdoorsmen who enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and bicycling, and spending weekends at the family camp in Tionesta.

Within the past year he and his wife had traveled to Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Montreal, Quebec; and Virginia Beach, Va.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City.

Friends will also be received on Tuesday from 9-9:30 a.m

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Holy Redeemer Church, 415 Fourth St., Ellwood City. The Rev. Mark Thomas will officiate.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church on Tuesday by 10:45 am to conduct full military honors.
