In football action, the Riverside Panthers fell to Mohawk 34-18 Friday night in a Midwestern Conference showdown. Both teams entered the homecoming contest vying for playoff positions.
Warriors running back Braydon Cameron scored three times on the ground and defensively with an interception return of 80 yards to lead Mohawk (6-1, 5-1) to victory.
Cameron led all of Lawrence County in rushing coming into the contest with 803 yards on 125 carries and added to his totals in the contest.
The Panthers offensive flourished on the ground but had found themselves down 21-0 early in the first half before they could respond on the scoreboard.
Riverside finished with over 200 yards rushing as a team and Panthers Hunter Nulph and Nic Ottaviani each had rushing touchdowns.
Ben Hughes connected on a touchdown strike to Nate Sciarro to bring Riverside within 10 points, but Cameron iced the game with his fourth score of the night.
Next up for the Panthers (4-2, 3-2) is the rivalry game – the RivEll Cup – against crosstown rival Ellwood City, This year’s game will take place at Helling Stadium Friday night with a 7 PM kickoff.
