After a year of absence, the Juried Art Show has returned to the Ellwood City Festival. The Ellwood City Festival committee is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Juried Art Show. Taking Best of Show is Lynn Fletcher with her oil painting titled, “Hand Picked”. Other winners are: 2D Distinguished-Beth Beiter, 3D Distinguished-Chris Ferruchi, Photography Distinguished-Jennifer Toman, 2D Merit-Grace Carroll Hufnagel, & Photography Merit-Lisa Greco. In the children’s categories, Ali Gardner received a Merit award in the 10 & under category, and Hayden Slade received a Merit award in the 11-15 year old category.
As a special recognition for our men and women who put their lives on the line every day, the Ellwood City Festival is proud to bring the work of recent Slippery Rock University graduate, Kaci Flora, to the art show.
Kaci will be installing her senior thesis piece titled “Faces of Courage” on one wall of the exhibition space. Kaci’s work features 50 casted faces of police officers arranged on the gallery wall to represent the Thin Blue Line, a symbol used to identify law enforcement, as if emerging from a protective barrier.
Flora comes from a family with several police officers and believes “These men and women don’t just represent police officers, they represent people with families. They are good people and they stand for what they believe. They have a face behind their job.” And that “face” is the essence of what Flora tries to convey in her art work.
The judge for this year’s show is Anthony Valvano, art handler for the Andy Warhol Museum. This year’s show will be hosted by Festival Juried Art Show Chair,Cathy Jones.
The Festival will be held on June 29th, 30th, and July 1st. Accepted artwork will be on display at the Trefoil Lodge in Ewing Park during the three-day event that attracts over 20,000 visitors each year.
