With a hard fought 3 to 1 victory, Riverside Baseball Team will advanced to the next round of the WPIAL Playoffs.
Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Monday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Steel Valley 3-1. Riverside pitchers allowed just three hits to Steel Valley.
Riverside got things started in the second inning. Ethan Ziegler’s sac fly scored one run for Riverside Riverside Panthers Varsity.
Gunnar Boehm was the winning pitcher for Riverside. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight. Nick Ottavianiand Ty Thellman entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Thellman recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Riverside.
Nick Harhai took the loss for Steel Valley. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven.
Ziegler, Thellman, Austin Dambach, and Danny Fox each managed one hit to lead Riverside.
Riverside will play Brownsville today at W&J College at 4:30 pm. The bus will leave at 1:30 pm and the team will be excused at 1:15 pm.
