Riverside used late scoring outbursts to help easily dispatched Ellwood City 8-2 on Monday afternoon at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.
The visiting Panthers (11-1 overall) put up four runs in the sixth and another four runs in the final frame after the Wolverines chipped into the lead. Riverside’s offense in the seventh came from singles by Drew Speicher, Ethan Ziegler, and Ben Hughes and a sac fly by Ty Thellman.
Gunnar Boehm was the winning pitcher for Riverside. He surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Sean Busby took the loss for Ellwood City. He allowed 11 hits and eight runs over five and a third innings, striking out four.
Riverside racked up 13 hits. Ziegler, Danny Fox, Brian MacMurdo, Speicher, and Thellman all managed multiple hits for the Panthers. Ziegler led Riverside with three hits in four at bats while Fox doubled. Hughes had an efficient day at the plate for the Panthers, collecting two RBIs and two sacrifices to go along with a single in his only official plate appearance.
Ricky Pitrelli went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate to lead Ellwood City (3-9 overall). Blaze Chambers collected the other RBI in defeat for the Wolverines.
