Blowout Victories Abound: Boehm Shines on Mound for Panthers, Garroway at Plate for Ellwood City

Two Riverside Pitchers Combine In Shutout Victory Against Avonworth

Riverside Panthers defeated Avonworth 10-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Nick Ottaviani struck out Patrick Gannon to finish off the game, finishing off a phenomenal start by Riverside starter Gunner Boehm.

The Panthers fired up the offense in the first inning, and scored two runs when Boehm helped his own cause with a homer.

Riverside tallied four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Brian MacMurdo, a groundout by Ethan Ziegler, and a double by Drew Speicher.

Boehm was the winning pitcher for Riverside. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and zero runs while striking out 12. Ottaviani threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Turner Grau took the loss for Avonworth. He went four innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and striking out two.

The Panthers launched two home runs on the day. Boehm had a dinger in the first inning and Ty Thellman went yard in the second inning.

Riverside saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Boehm and Speicher all managed multiple hits for the Panthers. Speicher and Boehm each collected two hits to lead Riverside.

Avonworth racked up six hits in the game. Jack Reed and Dick each collected multiple hits for Avonworth.

Wolverines Slide Into A Blow-Out Win Over Freedom Area

Ellwood City easily dispatched Freedom Area 16-1 on Thursday afternoon behind an offensive performance by Ariana Garroway.  Garroway was a terror at the plate, finished with two hits – including a home run — a walk,  three runs scored, and three RBIs for the Wolverines.

In the bottom of the first inning, after staking the Bulldogs to an early one-run lead, the Wolverines tied things up. Slowinski threw a wild pitch allowing Garroway across the plate for the Wolverines. Ellwood City pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning courtesy of a Reagan Mittler 2-run home run.

The Wolverines tallied eight runs in the third inning. The Wolverines big bats were led by Natalia Greco, Breonna Streit, Mittler, Makinley Magill, Garroway, and Zoe Kalantzis, all driving in runs in the frame.

Madi Krugh led things off on the rubber for Wolverines. She surrendered one run on three hits over four innings. Slowinski was on the mound for Freedom Area. She allowed nine hits and 11 runs over three innings, striking out three.

Wolverines tallied two home runs on the day. Mittler put one out in the second inning. Garroway had her long ball in the third inning.

Wolverines collected 11 hits on the day including multi-hit performances by four starters. Maria Ioanilli, Anna Ferrucci, Streit, and Garroway all managed two hits for the Wolverines. Garroway, Streit, Ferrucci, and Ioanilli each collected two hits to lead Wolverines.
