Tomorrow the players of Riverside’s 2017 varsity baseball team will be receiving their WPIAL Championship rings during the basketball match against Ellwood City.

This is the fifth year for Riverside to win the WPIAL Championship. The team won their 2017 season 19-2, losing their last game to Central.

The date of the ring presentation was only coincidental, according to Dan Oliastro, head coach of the team.

“This was the only game date we could get all of the players together to present the rings. Some of the team members are back from college visiting their families for the holidays, and we have one teammate who is in the military, each will be returning to their duties soon.”

This is a big event for the players, according to Riverside graduate Dylan Speicher, who is now attending a community college for business administration in Maryland.

“This is the second year we’ve got the rings, and we are really looking forward to it,” Speicher said.

The rings are personalized to each player with their name and number, however the design has remained a surprise to the team and will not be revealed until tomorrow during the ceremony.

The ceremony will last only a short period during the game’s half time and will consist of the ring presentation and a few words spoken about the team.

The game starts tomorrow at 7:30, hosted at Riverside.
