Two Local Moms Baking Their Way to Lawrence Avenue

Sweet Caroline’s isn’t the only sweet-based business coming to Lawrence Avenue this season; The Sweet Shop, a specialty bakery, will be opening their doors next to Kimpel’s Jewelers sometime in the late spring or early summer.

Katie Weisz and Kristen Campbell, two best friends and local moms are the visionaries behind The Sweet Shop, and when the space next to Kimpel’s opened up they decided it was the perfect opportunity to offer Ellwood City an unmatched bakery experience.

The bakery will feature homemade cookies, candy, cupcakes, specialty chocolates, hard serve ice cream, and coffee from National Grind – but the gourmet items are not the only thing that will set the shop apart from the rest.

“We want to focus the shop on offering something to the community that other local bakeries don’t, such as being open in the evening, on weekends, and during events and certain holidays,” Campbell said, also stating that the bakeries main goal is to offer enjoyable affordable goods.

The duo will be sure to have four main flavors available at all times, chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and carrot, and while they’re waiting for the shops renovations to be completed before opening, they have been testing and perfecting many recipes and flavors to ensure a wide variety of tasty desserts will be available to customers, including gluten and sugar free options.

The pair plan on hosting fund raisers, events, and classes at the location to encourage community involvement and growth.

“The Sweet Shop will be a place for fun and enjoyment; a social gathering where anyone will feel comfortable and welcome – we will be committed to bringing business to downtown Ellwood City, like Ellwood City has been committed to being a wonderful place for us and our families to live and grow,” Weisz stated.

Campbell and Weisz are so committed to the community that they will be strongly encouraging feedback from customers about what they like and dislike about the shop and how it can be better tailored towards the wants of the customers.

  1. Cassandra, it’s Kimpel’s not Kimple’s. Good article though I am looking forward to cupcakes!
