Wolverines Grab Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Laurel

Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Laurel on Friday.

The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Mitch Fraser singled off of Will Shaffer, driving in the go-ahead run to finally overtake a Laurel team that took an early lead in the first inning.

Noah Rinker earned the win for Ellwood City Wolverines. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Tyler Good recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Ellwood City Wolverines.

Will Shaffer took the loss for Laurel. He threw two innings, allowing two runs, two hits, and striking out three. Coltin Esposito started the game for Laurel. He went five innings, surrendering two runs, seven hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Sean Busby started the game for Ellwood City Wolverines. He tossed two and a third innings, surrendering three runs, and one hit.

Ellwood City Wolverines had nine hits in the game. Mitch Fraser and Rick Pitrelli each collected multiple hits for Ellwood City Wolverines. Good, Devon Hudspath, Shane Sedgwick, and Fraser each drove in one run to lead Ellwood City Wolverines.

The Wolverines next travel to Quaker Valley Monday afternoon for a 4:15pm game.  Also in action Monday afternoon will be the Riverside Panthers baseball and softball with both teams hosting home games at 4:00pm versus Beaver and Knoch respectively.
