Mr. Richard L. Miles, Jr., 67, of Wampum passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the Friendship Ridge Nursing Center.
Mr. Miles was born on September 7, 1949 in Erie, Pa to the late Richard L. and Edith L. Steele Miles, Sr.. He had attended Riverside High School. Richard enlisted with the U.S. Marines on February 2, 1967 and served until his discharge on December 17, 1970 . He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksmanship Badge. Following his service with the Marines, Richard worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill in Beaver Falls for 8 years as a crane and machine operator. He then worked as a bartender at Buster’s in Koppel for 6 years. He was also a member the V.F.W. in New Galilee since 1990 and the Veterans Honor Guard for over 14 years. An outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed fishing, and camping.
He is survived by his wife Delores Shutack Miles whom he married on June 11, 1974, his daughter, Yvonne Miles and her companion Ron Painter of Verona, his son, Skip Miles of Beaver Falls, his grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Justin, and Joshua Miles, and his sisters, Michelle Clark of Erie, and Debbie Miles of New Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Kathy Miles.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. Rev. Keith Black will officiate. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 3:50 pm to conduct full military honors.
