Ann Mozes Soltes, 98, formerly of Ellport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Franciscan Manor.
Born in New Castle, PA on August 4, 1918, Ann was the daughter of the late Denes and Anna Horvath Mozes. Ann moved to Ellport as a child, attended the Ellport Grade School and was the first in her family to graduate from Lincoln High School in 1936. Since transportation wasn’t provided, she walked to Lincoln every day, including to her prom. After graduation, Ann attended beauty school in St. Louis, Mo. She returned to Ellport to open her own shop in her mother’s home.
On June 5, 1942, Ann married Francis William “Bill” Soltes at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday School and played piano for the congregation. Together, Ann and Bill raised five children and were active in their schooling at BVM and followed all of their sports activities.
Ann was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellport where she filled several offices, including president. Ann was the organist at St. Joseph’s for 28 years. She was also a member and officer of the Catholic Daughters of America and served as the Grand Regent.
Ever proud of her Hungarian heritage, Ann was a member of the Hungarian Women’s Club, of which her mother, Anna was a co-founder. She served as secretary for many years, writing all of the minutes in Hungarian. Every fall, she dressed her children, grandchildren and later great-grandchildren in traditional Hungarian costumes for the annual Harvest Dance.
Ann is survived by her children; Rita (Will) Guy, of New Sewickley Twp., Patricia Soltes of Monroeville, Dolores Soltes of Beaver Falls, Christina Crespo of Coconut Creek, FL and Bill Soltes of Bluff City, TN, five grandchildren; Colleen (Bob) Hoge, Heather (Rich) Hinkle, Gary (Ellen) Young, Hunter Soltes and Rhegan Soltes, seven great-grandchildren; Susan (Derek) Mason, Brian (Danielle) Hoge, Jordan, Jenna and Jared Hinkle, Madelene and Gage Young and two great-great grandchildren; Emma Mason and Maddox Hoge.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in September of 1997, two brothers; Dan and Frank Mozes and three sisters; Elizabeth Dudash, Margaret Haswell and Emma Mohrbacher.
Friends will be received on Saturday, February 11th from 7-9 PM and on Sunday, February 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 13th at 10:00 AM at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Zachary Galiyas. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
The last three years of her life were spent as a resident of Franciscan Manor. She received the finest care and was so loved by the staff. The family would like to thank Rex, Melissa, Peggy, Jan, Laura, Nina, Christine, Kim, Elaine, Kayla and all her wonderful loving aides and servers. It was comforting to know she spent her last days with people who respected and loved her dearly.
A truly beautiful soul who loved her family more than herself and made each one of us feel as if we were her “favorite”. She will be missed by all and we were blessed to have had her for all these years.
The family requests you view the obituary and sign the guestbook at www.tomonfuneralhome.com
