Mrs. Maria Carusone, 87, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in the Avalon Nursing Center.
Mrs. Carusone was born on February 17, 1929 in Roccoramana, Caserta, Italy to the late Stefano Napolitano and Carmella Mundello. She had graduated from high school in Italy. She, along with some of her family members came to the United States in 1954. Maria had worked at the Ellwood City Knitting Mill, Airway Luggage, and Romar Textiles as a seamstress. For over 20 years she, along with her husband Aldo, was a co-owner and operator of Aldo’s Pizza King which was located on 6th St. in Ellwood City. She also is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish. Maria was an amazing gardener and cook who enjoyed knitting and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose, (George) Fenechi, her sons, Tony Carusone, Albert (Susan) Carusone, and Stefano Carusone all of Ellwood City, her 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sisters, Marciela DiServi and Micaela Attanasio both of New York, Elia Napolitano and Sister Anastansia both of Italy, and her brothers, Paulo Napolitano of New York, and Gaetano Napolitano of Italy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cataldo “Aldo” Carusone whom she married on May 27, 1950 and passed away on August 27, 2000, her sister, Rafiela Auduno, her brothers, Pasquale, Benito, and Luigi Napolitano, and her daughter-in-law, Carmella Carusone.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 9:20 am. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Carusone’s name may be made to the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa 15224.
