Agnes S. Bender, 102, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away in her residence in Manchester, NH on Thursday, September 22, 2016.
Born in Ellwood City on February 19, 1914, Agnes was the daughter of the late Andrew and Esther Simon Swartz. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933 and married Frederick W. Bender on August 7, 1937. Agnes worked as a clerk at Miller’s Gift Shop on Lawrence Avenue. The oldest living member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Agnes was also a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Saxon Club. She loved gardening, baking and cooking and she was also an excellent golfer.
Agnes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Donald Torbich of Bedford, NH, her son, Frederick W. Bender, Jr. of Seattle, WA, two grandchildren; Jennifer Labrecque and Jeffery Bender and two great-grandsons; Jason and Alexander Labrecque.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick in 1988 and a sister, Esther Herge.
Friends will be received on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 27th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley of Trinity Lutheran Church. Entombment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery Mausoleum.
