Rosetta D. Cumo, 85, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in the Jameson Memorial Hospital.
Rosetta was born on Dec. 19, 1930 in Ellwood City to the late Louis A. and Florence Regoli Rocco. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1948. Rosetta also graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in New Castle as a Registered Nurse, and from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She had worked at the St. Francis Hospital in New Castle as a Registered Nurse and then at the Ellwood City Hospital for many years as a nursing supervisor.
She is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish and the Christian Mothers of the Holy Redeemer Parish. Rosetta is a founder and past chairman of the Ellwood City Girls Slow Pitch Softball League. She was the founder and coordinator for OAKS (Old Folks Daycare) which was held at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, and volunteered with the VNA (Visiting Nurses Association). She had belonged to the Ladies of the MOOSE, the Lioness Club, the Red Hat Society, the AARP, the Legion of Mary and had served on the board of directors for the Blind Association. She also volunteered at the After Prom as the nurse for many years, the Purification B.V.M. School PTA, and at the Red Cross Blood Drives.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Steele of Fairview, Pa. and Brynna (Gary) Hunt of New Castle, her son, Alan (Roberta) Cumo of Clarion, Pa., her grandchildren, Jeremy Hunt, Evan (Lacie) Cumo, and Marissa (John) Widmer, her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Brett Widmer, her sister, Carol Yoho of Austintown, Ohio, and her brother-in-law, Edward Dixon of Chippewa Twp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence (Larry) Cumo whom she married on Sept. 6, 1952, and passed away on Feb. 20, 2005, and her sister, Julia Dixon.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Members of the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the church on Tuesday by 9:50 a.m. to form an honor guard. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 9:20 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society, the Blind Association or to the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund.
