When the fourth inning started, the Ellwood City softball team was in a quagmire, down 5-2 where any gains could be shut down by more Laurel runs. However, the Lady Wolverines made a resounding comeback to win 8-6.
Ellwood earned two runs in the fourth inning and from then on, kept Laurel at bay. The Lady Spartans only got one run in for the rest of the game while Ellwood picked up four more in the sixth and seventh inning.
Freshmen Ariana Garroway, straight out of a massively successful junior high team, had four hits, three runs and three RBIs. Freshmen Anna Ferrucci had three runs and two hits.
Although pitcher Skyla Greco had eight hits against, she still exceeded that with nine strikeouts. In the outfield, Megan Siegfried put out four Laurel runners.
The Lady Wolverines followed Thursday’s win with an 8-1 win against Union on Saturday. Camille Maine had three RBIs, three hits and two runs. Greco struck out 15 Union batters while Ellwood gathered all its runs in the first two innings, sealing the game.
With these two victories, Ellwood starts the week undefeated 5-0. They have an away conference game against Neshannock today.
