Mary B. Verdecchia, 88, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 in the Ellwood City Hospital.
Mary was born on June 7, 1927 in Ellwood City to the late Charles A. and Rose Marie Lasso Carone. She had worked for 30 years at Johnny’s Pizza Shop as a cook. Following her retirement, Mary served as a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years. She is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish and the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers. She also is a member of the Golden Agers, and she enjoyed reading and baking.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Rose Mary (John) Johns of New Castle and Denise (Kenneth) Amonette of Ellwood City, her son, Frank A. (Shari) Verdecchia, Jr. of Ellwood City, her 7 grandchildren, David (Sabrina) Verdecchia, Frank (Bethany) Verdecchia, Stephanie Verdecchia, Koren (Robert) Floan, Elise Amonette, Mary Beth (Paul) Husing, and Brandon (Carissa) Johns, and her seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank A. Verdecchia, Sr., and her brother, Joseph A. Carone.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church. Entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Resurrection Mausoleum. Members of the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:20 a.m. to form an honor guard. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the Ellwood City Area Public Library, or to the Ellwood City Hospital.
