Senior Karrington Ketterer scored 26 points in yesterday’s 49-34 win against New Castle on Senior Night.
The Lady Wolverines have five seniors on the roster and all hold a special place to head coach Jolene Krupa and her sister, assistant coach Dena Noble. When the two started coaching, the Class of 2016 was in eighth grade, and Krupa and Noble have coached them up through the years.
This roster also qualified for playoffs last year, the first time the Lady Wolverines have done so since 1997-98.
They are not only great athletes, but are amazing young ladies as well,” Krupa said. “They have been tremendous role models for their younger teammates and have lead this team over the past couple years. It has been a pleasure to coach them during their high school careers. I will miss each of them but wish them all the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
In yesterday’s conference game, the Lady Wolverines never gave the Hurricanes a foothold, outscoring them steadily. In addition to Ketterer, seniors Allie McKelvey, Emily Brown, Paige Mason and Cortni Prine all saw action. Brown was the second highest scorer with nine while McKelvey scored eight. Brown also serves as the team captain while McKelvey is the team’s overall second highest scorer.
Ketterer’s 26 points where not just a season high but a career high for the senior whose season total is now 284. She is 13 points away from achieving 1,000 varsity points. Earlier this week, Ketterer was the recipient of the Lawrence County Girls Youth Basketball Scholarship and intends to play basketball at University of Pittsburgh at Johnston, an NCAA Division II school, while studying to be a physical therapist.
The Lady Wolverines last game will be at Montour on Monday.
