Raymond M. Gibson, Sr., 85

Raymond M. Gibson, Sr., 85, of Fombell passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 in the Butler VNA Hospice House.

Gibson was born on May 27, 1930 in Pittsburgh to the late Clyde B. and Margaret Tranter Gibson. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 1948 and served with the Company D 10th Engineering Corp until his discharge on Dec. 23, 1949 with the rank of Private First Class. Ray worked as a First Class Millwright for Johns Manville Co. in Zelienople for 30 years, and he retired in 1992.

Ray is Protestant by faith, and enjoyed hunting, golfing, spending time at his camp in Cooks Forrest and line dancing. He is also a member of the Circle of Friends in Baden.

Gibson is survived by his two daughters, Linda (Charles) Sterner of Fombell, and Mary Ann (Frank) Frederick of Perry Twp., his son, Raymond M. Gibson, Jr. and his companion Melissa Underwood of New Castle, his 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Diane Gibson of North Sewickley Twp., and his sister, Edith (Thomas) Brain of Middle Lancaster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary A. Meier Gibson whom he married on Aug. 23, 1947 and passed away on June 7, 1996, his son, Walter W. Gibson, and his brothers, David Gibson and Donald Gibson.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5- to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. Services for Mr. Gibson will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Pastor Will Goetz officiating. Interment will be at the Pinewood Memorial Gardens. Members of the American Legion Post 474 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions in Mr. Gibson’s name may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree, St., Atlanta, GA 30309.
