Margaret “Peg” A. Malcolm, 82

Margaret “Peg” A. Malcolm, 82, of Fountain Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away in her residence on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016.

Born in Chamberville, Pa., Peg was the daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Buggy Ednie. She married Russell B. Malcolm on May 5, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1977. In her younger years, Peg worked at the Office on Aging in Indiana County and managed the Community Center there. She also worked as a day care aid. Later, Peg owned and operated Specialties Plus on the corner of Fifth Street and Beaver Avenue in Ellwood City.

Peg was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and an active member of its Christian Mothers. She was an avid bowler and attended Silver Sneakers. Always a caregiver, Peg enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.

Peg is survived by her children; Russell J. Malcolm of New Castle, Julie A. and Mark Strosnider of Ellwood City, Michael A. and Judy Malcolm of New Castle, Karen L. Lemanski of Ellwood City, Walter G. and Mary Malcolm of Butler, Mary Jo Frelin of Portersville, Robert and Peri Malcolm of Ellwood City and Donna Gobrich of Ellwood City, two sisters; Catherine “Cass” Caster of Indiana, Pa. and Roberta Zona of Zelienople, three brothers; Walter J. Ednie of Royerford, Pa., Bernard Ednie of Orlando, Fla. and Fred Ednie of Seattle, 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Peg was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Caster, a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Ednie, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Sunday, Jan. 10 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, January 11 at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

The Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. to form the Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made in Peg’s name to either the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund or to the Ellwood City Area Public Library.
