Weekly Basketball Summary: Riverside Girls Escape Defeat by Two Points

Riverside Girls Narrowly Bests Beaver

The Lady Panthers nearly lost their second game this season but refused to be brought down, snatching victory from the Beaver Bobcats 56-54.

After trailing behind for the first three quarters, Riverside rallied for a counterattack, going 25-12 in the final quarter. Katie Stang led the Lady Panthers with 23 points.

Ellwood City Falls to Union

Ellwood City lost to Union 73-58 in a non conference game on Monday. The game was part of the Neshannock Christmas Tournament. The second quarter proved decisive when the Scotties pulled ahead by 10 points and were able to hold off the Wolverines in the second half.

The two Roth brothers led the Wolverine’s offense, with sophomore Anthony scoring 18 and senior Rick scoring 15.

West Allegheny Defeats Ellwood City

The Lady Wolverines lost to West Allegheny 71-29 yesterday in the LGKG Holiday Classic. Karrington Ketterer was Ellwood’s high scorer with 13 points.

Riverside Falls to Shady Side

Riverside lost 52-48 to hosting Shady Side Academy in the Peter Sauer Memorial Tournament on Monday.

Although Riverside maintained a narrow lead in the first half, this was lost and Shady Side pulled ahead just enough to win.

Dylan Speicher and Austin Dambach had 14 points each.
