Emilio “Emil” Carosi, 87

Emilio “Emil” Carosi, 87, formerly of Ellwood City passed away peacefully in his home in Melbourne, Fla. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 surrounded by his family, and became reunited with his loving wife Lucy in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Carosi was born on May 29, 1928 in Pittsburgh to the late Umberto and Josephine Maggi Carosi, Sr. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1947. Emil served with the U.S. Navy from May 8, 1946 until his discharge on March 10, 1948 with the rank of Seaman First Class. Following his service with the Navy, Emil graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctors of Mechanics Degree. He was employed at the U.S. Steel Plant in Ellwood City from 1948 until the mill closed in 1974, first as a shipping clerk and later as a purchasing agent. From 1974 until his retirement in 1977 he worked in MacDonald, Oh. at the U.S. Steel Mill in the accounting department. He also had worked for many years as a mechanic for the Snyder’s Potato Co. in Franklin Township.

While living in Ellwood City, Emil was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish. In Melbourne he belonged to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Sons Of Italy #608 in Ellwood City. Emil’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Lucy for 57 years and her caregiver for 30 years of which she was severely disabled. He was also a devoted father and very proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His steadfast support, generous spirit and witty humor will be remembered by his family and friends and serve as a reminder of how to embrace life.

Emil is survived by his three daughters, Jo (Anthony) Rocco of Ellwood City, Patty (Roger) Lirot of New Castle, and Lucy (Marvin) Woodberry of Boardman, Ohio, his eight grandchildren, Sammy (Kristen) Rocco, Joe (Kathleen) Rocco, Michael (Dena) Rocco, Michelle (Dave) Steffler, Vince (Jaci) DeFonde, Amy (David) Jones, Toni Marie (Bill) Dando, and Joey (Emily) Versace, and his 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Caroline “Chick” Ottavio of Ellwood City, and Josephine (John) Minicuci of Michigan, and his three brothers, Archangelo “Archie” (Lydia) Carosi of Butler, Lawrence (Esther) Carosi of Palm Bay, FL, and Umberto “Birdy” (Rozanne) Carosi, Jr. of Perry Township. Emil is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by his special friend Amanda Bevis of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lucy Marinaccio Carosi whom he married on April 7, 1951 and passed away on April 5, 2008.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Zachary Galiyas officiating. Entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Assumption Mausoleum. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 9:20 a.m. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday 10:50 a.m. to conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions in Carosi’s name may be made to the charity of the donors choosing.
