Marie Ella Hart, 90

Marie Ella Hart, 90, of Fombell and Ellwood City went to rest peacefully in the arms of God on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony after a brief stay. Prior to her stay at Evergreen, she was a resident of Northview Estates in Ellwood City.

Born on Feb., 23, 1925, Marie was the oldest child of George H. and Esther (Rape) Lauten of Fombell. On March 1, 1944 she married Emerson J. Hart of Fombell, a farmer who had courted her on horseback. Marie was a hard working farm wife who raised bountiful gardens of produce and lovingly canned this produce to feed her family and anyone who dropped by the farm. She was an avid reader of the Beverly Lewis’ Amish book series where her collection exceeded 150 books including one signed this summer by Beverly Lewis herself when she visited the Ellwood City Library.

Even though Marie and Emerson were farm owners in their early days, they found time for adventure and travel. They traveled with Worldwide Country Tours to Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Norway on a couple of occasions as well as Hawaii. Plus, they got hooked on one-day and several-day bus trips including a trip to the West Coast and back. They both loved to meet other farm families in their travels. They also enjoyed traveling in their mini-van and camped at Ponderosa Park in Ohio with sister Betty Brown and her husband and their many new-found friends. Marie was also quite the fan of Irish tenor Danny O’Donnell having traveled by bus many times to hear him sing in person.

Anyone who knew Marie in the last several years was probably the recipient of one of her sets of hand loomed hot pads or one of her corn bags, her cure-all for any ache or pain. Marie’s embroidery skills adorned many quilts and pillow cases which will be treasured by family members.

She is survived by four children, David Hart of Mercer; Bob Hart and wife Sharon of Fombell; Bill Hart and wife Judy of Fombell; and Pat Leach and husband Garry of Marion Center. Marie’s surviving siblings are Ethel Mae Hall and husband Lloyd of Fombell; Jean Davidson of Seymour, TN; Ruth Thoma and husband Wayne of Butler; and Bob Lauten and wife Evelyn of Fombell.

Nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews and cousins complete the family.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Emerson; her parents, her sister Betty Brown and her husband Don; her daughter-in-law, Deanna Hart; sister-in-laws Mae Hart Steffler, Velma Hart Friday and husband Bill; brothers-in-law Ernest Davidson, Dale Hart, Lee Hart and wife Lois; and nephew Jeff Hart.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Ave., Ellport from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon, Rev. Patricia Cleary, celebrant. Entombment will follow in Zelienople Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marie’s name to either the Ellwood City Area Public Library, 415 Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City, PA 16117 or the First United Methodist Church, 416 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City, PA 16117.
