Due to the overwhelming participation with previous years, our annual child’s Costume Contest is happening again! We will be accepting photo submissions starting October 31st and ending Nov 2. Submissions will appear on our Facebook gallery page for voting beginning Friday, November 3rd and voting runs through Thursday, November 9th. The Rules: 1. Dress your kids up for Halloween! 2. Junior Councilman Appointed to Ellwood City Council

An exciting announcement was made Monday evening during the Council Meeting – Junior student at Lincoln High School, Colin Smith, was appointed Junior Councilman on the committee. Smith, who is a member of the National Honor Society, kicker on the football team, Blue Band member, and active volunteer in the community, took his Oath of Office Monday evening, signed his name on the X, and pulled up a chair around the table. Borough Residents to Receive Point and Pay Notice

Ellwood City Borough residents should soon be receiving notices in the mail regarding the Borough’s new online bill pay feature called Point and Pay, powered by Paydici. Since logins and auto payments will not be transferred from the old portal, residents will be sent an e-mail next month when the payment portal is live, prompting them to set up a new account. Lion’s Club Fountain Reappears After Years of Absence

After years of absence, the Lion’s Club water fountain is back in Ellwood City – bigger and better than ever! On the corner of Lawrence and Sixth, a brightly colored lion statue sits, donated by the kindness of one of the Lion’s Club founding member’s daughter. Line Ave. Resident Facing Child Porn Charges, Freed on Surety Bond

A Line Ave. resident is facing 22 counts of child pornography charges following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. According to New Castle News, Robert Lee Rogers, 48, of 632 Line Avenue, Ellwood City, was investigated after allegedly downloading images of juvenile girls on his computer. The FBI alerted the district attorney’s office of their findings, prompting a search of Rogers’ laptop computer. Agents discovered additional child pornography images that did not meet parameters established for FBI prosecution and the prosecution was turned over to the local agency. College, Smiley Street Repave Project Reaches Completion

As a result of a Joint Paving Project between the Borough of Ellwood City, Columbia Gas and the PA American Water Company, the street from College to Smiley Street was repaved. This project which involved these utilities brought about new water and natural gas services to the residents. In addition, the participating utilities actually performed restorative and replacement sidewalk and handicap ramp improvements and even some driveway aprons where necessary. “This is an indication of the types of projects the Borough has been engaged in with the utilities and will continue to work with them to get the projects completed…


Meet the Players: Stiefel Hockey League

The Stiefel Hockey League is just ending their successful summer season and entering their fall season, which is expected to start mid-September. The league is made up of a diverse crowd of players, most doing it just for some fun, friendly competition. Currently, the league has at least five teams already signed up for the fall season but is still accepting team and individual sign-ups. Woman Charged with Endangering Welfare of Children After Incident Involving Marijuana

According to the criminal complaint, Ashley Anne Birchfield, 33, of Ellwood City, is facing charges of endangering the welfare of children after an incident on August 29. On August 29 at approximately 11p.m. officers responded to a complaint that the residents of the apartment were smoking and the smoke was emanating throughout the hallways of the apartment building. Officers knocked on the suspects door and a juvenile answered, leaving the door open while he searched for an adult.
