PHOTOS: Annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade

In what may feel like annual conditions, wet weather and rain met those who paraded Lawrence Avenue on Saturday as part of the annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade. Many onlookers grabbed an umbrella and jacket to enjoy costumes, candy, and floats. The parade began at Holy Redeemer and continued west on Lawrence Avenue to 8th Street before returning on Crescent Avenue. Many area Trick or Treats are scheduled for Thursday evening. The Borough of Ellwood City will hold trick or treating from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

PHOTOS: Panthers Air Attack Helps Defeat Valley On Senior Night

The Riverside Panthers used another air attack to defeat Valley Friday night, 24-14 on senior night. Ben Hughes threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns to lead Riverside (6-2) to the nonconference win against Valley (1-8). Nathan Sciarro caught eight passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and added a 27-yard field goal. The victories places the Panthers in a win-and-get-in playoff scenario next week against New Brighton.  The winner of the Week 9 contest between the Panthers and Lions will clinch a WPIAL playoff berth with several other playoff implications on the line next week. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Defeats Laurel On Senior Night

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team capped senior night in victorious fashion, defeating the visiting Laurel Spartans Tuesday evening. Five Wolverine volleyball seniors were recognized before the match. After dropping the first set, Ellwood City rebounded with three consecutive set victories to take the match (19-25, 25-23, 25-26, 25-22) For the seniors, they experienced many wins and some losses on the playing court. They’ve left their blood, sweat, tears, and emotions on the court and they’ve learned how to compete with each other but still root for each other. Riverside quarterback Ben Hughes made sure his last ‘RivEll’ game would be a memorable one. The senior tossed a career-high six touchdown passes to lead the Panthers to a 49-28 victory over Ellwood City Friday night as part of Riverside homecoming festivities. The Panthers raced out to an early lead, and capped by Hughes’ third touchdown strike of the half – a 36-yard strike to Nathan Sciarro – led the Wolverines 28-0 at the half. PHOTOS: Wolverines Defeated In Homecoming Game; Panthers Run Wild In Victory

The Wolverines were wiped out 19-0 by visiting Western Beaver on Friday night as part of the Ellwood City homecoming festivities. Saylee Grinnen was crowned 2019 Homecoming Queen at halftime. PHOTOS: Big Plays Doom Wolverines In Defeat; Riverside Panthers Victorious

Big plays doomed the Ellwood City, as a 94-yard first quarter touchdown run, kick-started what became on offensive onslaught by Neshannock as the visiting Lancers routed the Wolverines 44-0 Friday night. The Lancers used five scoring plays of over 30 yards, including two scoring runs of 55+ yards, to race away to victory. The Wolverines offense was held to under 100 yards of total offense.  The game was called with 4:08 left when a series of lightning strikes occurred in the distance. VIDEO: Local Teenager Recovering From Lung Disorder Due To Vaping

A local teenager, recently released from the hospital, how has become one of 22 patients within UPMC this year alone who had lung-related problems due to vaping. According to a regional news outlet KDKA video, the Riverside High School junior spent time in a handful of hospitals before ending up in UPMC Children’s Hospital for 10 days before being released on Tuesday. According to the Center on Addiction website, Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, often referred to as vapor, which is produced by an e-cigarette or similar device. Nathan Sciarro accounted for three scores Friday night for Riverside while Ben Hughes tossed three touchdown strikes, but the biggest score of the game – a late 2-point conversion – was thwarted by Freedom and the Bulldogs escaped with a 31-30 victory over the Panthers. Trailing with less than three minutes to play, Riverside quarterback Ben Hughes connected with Josh Bishop on a 48-yard touchdown strike to bring the host Panthers within a point.  A decision was made to go for the two-point conversion and lead, but the rush play was stopped. PHOTOS: Annual Lincoln High School Pie Festival

With the chance of inclement weather in the forecast Thursday evening, the annual Lincoln High School Pie Festival was moved indoors to the Lincoln High School gymnasium.  The move did not impact the band who entertained those in attendance with tunes to help roll out the 2019-20 school year while fall sports teams were introduced. The celebration and introductions were coupled with hundreds of custom pies baked and donated by Debbie’s Delicious Desserts.  All proceeds benefited the Lincoln High School Marching Blue Band.
