The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting a youth baseball clinic in February. The goal is to enhance youth baseball in the community and will be open to players ages 10-12. The clinic will be run by Coach Jeff Fotia, former Ellwood City high school baseball coach who won multiple section titles and a PIAA state championship in 2003 and former players from the state championship team. In 1950, Ellwood City became the fifth league to be chartered in Western Pennsylvania and the first in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer Counties. Ellwood City Little League To Celebrate 75th Anniversary Season This Summer

Ellwood City Little League Baseball will celebrate their 75th anniversary this season. Ellwood City organized the first Little League program in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer counties in 1950. Ellwood City along with McKeesport, Washington, Coraopolis, and Tarentum were the five leagues in western Pennsylvania that participated in the state tournament in 1950. The inaugural game of the Ellwood City Little League game was played at the Lincoln High School Field on June 6, 1950. Ellwood City Falls Short In 73rd Little League Tournament; Zito Earns Homerun Derby Crown

After collecting an opening round win on Tuesday in the 73rd Annual Little League Tournament, Ellwood City squad could not advance any further, falling twice on Saturday, first to Laurel and again to Neshannock, each by a 5-2 count that eliminated the tournament host. Neshannock earned the tournament championship with two victories over Laurel on Sunday. Ellwood City’s Joey Zito won the the 23rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby at Freidhoff Field. Zito launched eight home runs to defeat 29 other contestants from the tournament. Ellwood City Rallies To Defeat Shenango In Its Little League Tournament Opening Game

Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Shenango, 5-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Tuesday night. Ben Sukits smacked the key hit of the game with a three-run triple which erased a 2-1 deficit. Joey Zito and Luca Smith combined for a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Ellwood City on the mound. The season will be six to eight weeks at four area locations with four levels of league play. The season is schedule to take place August 26th/27th until October 20th/21st.
