The Riverside girls basketball team has clinched a playoff berth and wrapped up its regular season Thursday with a 52-13 victory over New Brighton. A pair of Emmas will now lead the charge for the Lady Panthers as they forge their way in to the WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs. “Emma Meyer is a tireless worker and Emma Stockman just comes up big game after game,” says first year head coach John Fruehstorfer. Riverside used a 17-point effort by Cole Becker to knock off rival Ellwood City 49-47 in overtime Tuesday evening. The Panthers led 27-18 at halftime before the visiting Wolverines narrowed the gap with a third quarter surge and held Riverside to only three fourth quarter points to force overtime. Caitlin Kretizer and Delaney Sturgeon combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Lady Wolverines to a 40-37 comeback victory over #4 Keystone Oaks Wednesday night. After a sluggish first half that left the halftime score 18-14 in favor of the Golden Eagles, Ellwood City found momentum and scoring in the second half, putting up 26 second half points. Delaney Sturgeon poured in 28 points to lead Ellwood City to its first WPIAL playoff victory since 1995 with a 49-41 upset of No. 5 seed Seton LaSalle in a Class 3A first round game played at Chartiers Valley. The Lady Panthers defeated the Lions 60-7 to help run their regular season record to 14-8 Overall. DeLana Fox and Camryn Friello each scored 11 points for Riverside.
