Ellwood City School District Per Capita Tax Bills Split Into Two Mailings

Please be advised that Per Capita Tax billing for the Ellwood City Area School District has been split into two mailings. According to Berkheimer Tax Innovations and information made available by the district, a second mailing of bills will be sent out in August for anyone that did not receive a bill in July. In a release made available the by district and district superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley, ECASD is considering establishing a per capita tax. The official legal notice reads as follows: The Ellwood City Area School District, County of Lawrence, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will consider a resolution establishing a per capita tax of ten dollars ($10.00) levied on each indiviudal eighteen years of age or over residing within Ellwood City Area School District. No Proposed Tax Increase for Riverside School District

Total revenue for Riverside School District is proposed to be $24,608,155 with $24,933,735 in expenditures. The district isn’t proposing a tax increase this year. Top expense categories, which reflect 95 percent of the budget, include wages and benefits, debt service, transportation, tuition, supplies and books, utilities, special education services, substitute services, Questeq, equipment and other costs, comes out to $24.9 million, with $271,368 in budgetary reserve. The budgetary reserve includes health insurance, approved private charter and nonpublic school tuitions as well as technical school tuitions. December 2017 Regular Meeting Recap: 2018 Budget Approved

Yesterday was the December regular meeting for Ellwood City Borough Council, and also the last meeting for Council President Connie MacDonald, Vice President David DeCaria, and Councilman Brad Ovial. The newly elected council members will be taking their places starting next month. Visitors Paul Dici praised the work of the street department for their quick and thorough work during the snow storm last week. Lawrence County Commissioners to Vote on Allocation Among 9 Local Municipalities

With nearly $600,000 in funding requests but with only slightly above $100,000 in available funds for 2017, the Lawrence County Commissioners will be voting on where $84,500 will be allocated among nine municipalities in Lawrence County. Due to the counties responsibility to maintain only 27 bridges and no roads, the county commonly has an excess of revenue funded by Pennsylvania’s gasoline tax. They often use the excess for distribution among the local municipalities for liquid fuel-eligible projects.
