Evan Skinner led a trio of Panthers scoring in double figures Friday night as Riverside knocked off New Brighton 65-36 on Senior Night. Skinner finished with four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points in the victory. Will Sullivan (16 points) and McCartney Plassmeyer (10 points) joined Skinner in double figures. Skinner poured in 13 first half points as Riverside raced out to a 36-17 halftime advantage. Jackson Kerr scored a career high 21 points to lead Ellwood City to its Riv-Ell Cup victory over Riverside Tuesday night. The Wolverines raced out ahead early and poured in eight three pointers in the contest as they cruised to the 84-59 victory. Ellwood City led 18-6 after the first frame powered by scoring contributions by four starters. McCartney Plassmeyer poured in a game high 25 points Monday evening to lead Riverside to a 59-44 victory over Western Beaver. The 6’1′ junior guard connected on two 3-pointers and posted 14 first half points as the Panthers jumped out to a 28-22 halftime advantage. The Thanksgiving holiday rings in the holiday season and points focus on a few things – Christmas, and high school basketball! The Riverside Panthers boys basketball team collected two victories in the Laurel Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend. Riverside knocked off Sharpsville 52-37 on Friday and then defeated Commodore Perry 63-31 on Saturday. In Friday’s victory, McCartney Plassmeyer and Logan Young each scored 17 points for Riverside. Joseph Roth is now the all-time leading scorer in Ellwood City boys basketball history. The senior knocked down a free throw midway through the second quarter that gave him 1,939 career points, breaking the career scoring record previously held by Dan Aloi. The Riverside Panthers boys basketball regular season got under way this past week as the team traveled to participate in two, separate tip-off tournaments. The team settled with a split, defeating Wilmington on Friday before falling to Mercer on Saturday. On Friday, Drake Fox erupted for 20 points to lead the Panthers to its 49-26 victory. The junior connected on four 3-pointers. Riverside held a sizeable 27-11 halftime advantage on its way to the tournament victory.
