School Officials: Waterline Issues Resolved at Northside

Ellwood City School Officials said they have resolved water line issues that caused some condensation and dripping onto ceiling tiles at Northside Elementary School. A recent Facebook post had parents taking to social media to voice complaints and concerns about the condition of ceiling tile in a classroom at Ellwood City Area School District’s Northside Elementary school. Lagoon, Koscinski Hired as Armed Police Officers for Ellwood City Schools

The Ellwood City Area School Board hired two armed school police officers for the 2019-2020 school year. Robert Lagoon of Zelienople and Brad Koscinski of Grove City were announced as the first armed officers who will serve the school district thanks to a $156,400 grant provided by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The grant will allow the district to employ the two officers for two years. Kids Read Now Comes To North Side Primary

On May 16, North Side Primary held a Kids Read Now reading night to kick off their newly adopted summer reading program. This program helps kids avoid losing their reading skills they gained during the school year, so when they return in the fall teachers will not have to play catch-up for as long. “[Kids Read Now was] designed to eliminate the ‘summer slide’,” Principal Christine Gibson said. “[The program is] new and exciting for the kids.” The children who participate are chosen by their teachers. Kids Read Now Comes To North Side Primary

On Thursday, May 16 from 6-7pm, North Side Primary is hosting Kids Read Now Family Reading Night. Kids Read Now is a nationwide organization that pairs with school districts to keep reading a priority, even throughout the summer months. The goal is to close the achievement gap and eliminate the summer reading slide that occurs during the summer break. North Side Positive Action Program Recognizes Local Heroes

On Monday, children at North Side Elementary school present Ellwood City’s police and fireman as a part of their December Positive Action Program. The idea for this to become a program came from a simple comment made by Dawn Santagata’s granddaughter. “My daughter mentioned to me that my granddaughter had asked her if she should be afraid of the police,” Santagata said. Moisture Issue at North Side Primary

While the Ellwood City School District works to flush excess lead from some of the taps at each of the schools, they are also working to fix a moisture problem at North Side Primary. The official press release from the district states this fall the district became aware of a moisture issue at North Side. Daisy, a 4 year old Dogo Argentino, and her handler Melissa Parker visited North Side Primary School on Friday afternoon as part of the schools “service learning projects” scheduled throughout the year to teach the students about their community. The event was used to introduce and educate the students on rescue dogs and emphasizing the impact the responding police, fireman, and other rescue dogs can have in certain events.
