Calvin Presbyterian Hosts “Blue Christmas” Service

Calvin Presbyterian Church, 615 Crescent Avenue on Sunday, December 17 at 6:30 p.m. is hosting a “Blue Christmas” service for those in attendance to remember their loved ones. This is an ideal worship service for anyone in the community who is grieving or struggling in any way this Christmas season. There will be special music, an opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of a loved one, and a Word of hope. Light refreshments and opportunity for prayer will follow.

Last year during December we had hardly any snow and the average temperatures were in the 50’s and upwards. Despite this year’s snow, there are many townspeople out and about, some cleaning their cars off and others going in and out of the stores on Lawrence Avenue. There are four gingerbread houses on display, each one designed completely by the stylists. The public gets to choose which house they like the best by casting their vote inside the salon, and the winner receives a gift card. Ellwood City Man Faces Charges After Attempted Assault with Knife

Travis Ford Bates, 26, of River Road, is facing charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after an incident late last month. According to the criminal complaint, Bates was accused by his mother and her boyfriend of attempted assault with a knife after an argument about money. The mother stated that Bates had entered her bedroom while she was lying in bed and started yelling and making advances towards the couple with the knife. The couple were able to restrain Bates before any bodily injury occurred. Bates admitted to taking a kitchen knife and using it in…
