BREAKING: Fire Alarm Issue, Lincoln Students Sent Home Early

Lincoln High students are being sent home early today due to a fire alarm issue, the official statement is below: School Superintendent Joe Mancini stated: “During a routine monthly fire drill at Lincoln, it was discovered that half of the alarms, pulls and detectors were not functioning properly.  The alarm company was notified and sent a supervisor.  During his research, a short was discovered in the system for a certain area of the building.  Locating the short in the system could take some time without technicians.  It was decided at this time to close Lincoln for safety reasons.  At 11:30,…

Ellwood City back yard bird watchers and nature lovers – there is a Facebook group you’re invited to, called Bird Watchers of Western PA and Eastern Ohio that would love to hear your stories and see your pictures! EC Amateur Baseball Registration

It’s that time of year again – the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Registration is looking for players for the upcoming season. This year the team will be playing on the newly renovated Friedhoff Field, something that EC Baseball team member Mike Widmaier said the team is looking forward to. “Little League baseball was established in Williamsport, PA in 1939. Community Development Grant Survey Form

The Borough of Ellwood City is trying to utilize grant funds for street improvements on Franklin Avenue from Second Street to the dead end (heading west). A “Community Development Block Grant Survey Form” was hand-delivered to the residents living within this targeted area. It is imperative that the surveys are completed and returned to the Borough as soon as possible. As a condition of the grant the residents living in this area have to meet a certain income guidelines. Hence, the reason for the survey. Criminal Complaints: Domestic Disputes

Several Ellwood residents are facing charges after separate domestic dispute cases were reported this month: Steven Glen Ramsey, 32, of Ellwood City, is facing charges of prohibited acts, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after he had gotten into a physical argument with his girlfriend. The argument escalated when Ramsey pulled out a knife and held it to her throat, telling her that she needed to tell the truth or one of them was going to die. Student tickets for this Friday’s, Ellwood City Boy’s Varsity Basketball Game versus Riverside are on sale in the high school office. The cost is $2 per ticket. No student tickets will be sold at the door for this game. All tickets at the door will be $5 general admission and $1 for senior citizens.

Pennsylvania 2nd Highest Among States Affected by Salmonella Infections Linked to Coconut

According to the Center for Disease Control’s website, Pennsylvania is the second highest among the nine affected states for illness caused by a recent Salmonella outbreak. The site says that the CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to Coconut Tree Brand frozen Shredded Coconut. Illnesses started on dates ranging from May 11, 2017 to November 4, 2017. Ill people range in age from 1 year to 82, with a median age of 19. Among ill people, 19 (76%) are male….

This week’s Old Photo Friday is a photo of Ellwood residents removing the jail after a court session in 1967. The official release states: Members of the first kangaroo court, from left to right, Bob Miskolcze, Dale Vinroe, Dom Viccari and Jim Beatrice, removed the jail after last night’s court session in front of the Municipal Building. The jail is seen minus its first three occupants, Bill Livingston, Robert Abbatichhio and Robert Kimpel. The jail is expected to house many offenders in the days ahead before the jubilee celebration.
