Mayor Anthony J. Court’s Advisory Committee recently met in Council Chambers with the discussion surrounding the recent incidents within the Borough at the Line Avenue/Patricia Drive area. Mayor Court expressed the quick thinking and professionalism of the Police Department and the extended help from emergency response personnel within the community to resolve this issues before circumstances turned for the worse. Mayor and Holy Redeemer Honor School Choice Week

Mayor Anthony J. Court was honored to present to Sister Joanne Kokosinski on behalf of Holy Redeemer School’s students, staff, and school leaders a proclamation designating Jan. 31 through Feb. 5, 2016 as School Choice Week in Ellwood City. This will be Sister Joanne’s 19th year at Holy Redeemer to celebrate this National School Choice Week with the children and families of Ellwood City. Mayor’s Office: Be Alert for On-Going Phone Scam

Mayor Anthony Court wants to remind residents about an on-going scam that the US Department of Treasury has been warning taxpayers to be on high alert for. Some Ellwood City residents have called the Mayor’s office to let him know that they have received this type of phone call, telling them they need to pay their back taxes immediately or they will be arrested. These individuals are targeting our elderly, trying to frighten them into paying immediately. Please pay attention to the elderly in our area, so that they do not fall victim to this phone scam. Painting Project Spruces Up Ellwood City Family Center

Court worked on a program with Marion Owens of Sherwin Williams to spruce up the Ellwood City Family Center with complimentary paint and professional painters. Final Holiday Merchant Award Awarded

On Tuesday, Mayor Court presented to Patty Kuhn, owner of Posies by Patty, with the final 2015 “Holiday Merchant Awards” for the beautiful Holiday Window display at her business. Patty received a window display award sign and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. Mayor Court would like to thank everyone who participated in making this annual event such a success. On Monday, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented two more Holiday Merchant Awards to the owners of A Bella Boutique and another to Venezie Sporting Goods and Apparel for their holiday window displays. On Thursday, Mayor Court presented his annual “Holiday Merchant Awards” to the Ellwood City Ledger and to Nancy Smith Tailor Shop for their Holiday Window displays. Both businesses were nominated by people who thought their window decorations show the true spirit of the Holiday season. State Ethics Commission Report on Mayor’s Use of Borough Equipment

At Monday’s council meeting, council member David DeCaria read a letter from the State Ethics Commission regarding Mayor Anthony J. Court’s use of borough equipment for private property. According to the report, last October council was informed that Mayor Court had used borough paving trucks for a gravel lot he owns. DeCaria said the complaint stemmed from at least one council member. The State Ethics Commission sent their letter to court on Feb. 2 of this year. Twenty-Five Cameras Installed At Walnut Ridge Complex

On Tuesday, Mayor Anthony J. Court and the Lawrence County Housing Authority (LCHA) members gathered at the Walnut Ridge Housing Authority location to kick off the installation of 25 State of the Art cameras. The Mayor stated the project would be completed in approximately six weeks. Mayor Court stated the changes at this location were inevitable and he is pleased with these improvements. The high definition-digital zoom cameras will be plugged directly into the Ellwood City Police Station and cruisers for on the spot viewing.
