The Ellwood City Wolverines football team picked up a season opening victory on the road Friday night, edging Laurel 14-7 in overtime. Ellwood City may have earned a narrow victory, but Elijah Palmer-McCane made a huge mark in the record books. The senior running back finished with 146 rushing yards, adding two touchdowns in the contest, to become the Ellwood City Wolverines all-time career rushing leader. Parents Demand Change for Football Program

A group of parents urged the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors to consider naming a new head coach for the football program. The parents place the blame for three seasons in a row with a losing streak to current head coach Joe Lamenza. The main complaint expressed was a lack of inspiration and encouragement. The parents claim that the environment of losing has had a severe impact on the mental health of the players and that it is preventing future generations of players from wanting to play. ECASD Board of Directors Push for Spectator Attendance at Games

There’s no doubt the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors support student participation in Fall sports, but they also made it clear that they want spectators in the stands, on the sidelines, and cheering on the athletes. Football season passes for our two great, local high school football teams are now on sale! For Ellwood City, tickets are on sale in the main office at Lincoln High School. (six homes games) Adult $20.00, Student $5.00, Super Fan student passes are $10.00 this pass will get the student into all athletic events for this school year. Riverside Football Advances

Congratulations to the Riverside Football Team on advancing to the WPIAL Semi-Finals by defeating Avonworth High School on Friday night. Riverside will now play at North Hills at 7:30p.m. against Steel Valley High School this Friday. Tickets will be on sale this Friday in the high school athletic office from 7:50a.m. to 10:50a.m. Then tickets will be sold in the middle school and elementary lunches from 10:50a.m. and -12:30p.m. Finally, tickets will be on sale in the athletic office again from 12:30p.m.- 1:30p.m. Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $7.
