The Ellwood City Police Department is warning residents against a scam in which a caller is looking to gain Social Security numbers and money. Residents said a person pretending to be an employee of the Social Security Administration — and whose phone number sometimes appears on caller ID as a legitimate number for the agency — has been contacting residents. POLICE: Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins, Telephone Scams Reported

RASH OF VEHICLE BREAK-INS Ellwood City Police Department are requesting residents LOCK their vehicles when parked outside their residences. On Sunday night, December 9, 2018 into Monday morning, December 10, 2018 ECPD took reports of 10 UNLOCKED vehicles broken into in the Meadowridge Drive, Skyline Drive, Aetna Drive, and York Street areas. Local Women Suffers Identity Theft On Monday October 15 at 12:00 p.m., a local women reported that she was sent a $304.60 phone bill from Verizon Wireless for two cell phone lines she had not opened. Ellwood City Police are looking for a driver who sent them on a high speed chase on the Fourth of July. Police have filed charges against 22-year-old Isiah Nathaniel Carr of 1866 W. Lawrence Ave. regarding the alleged pursuit. District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright has issued a warrant for his arrest. According to a new release made available by the Ellwood City Police Department on Tuesday afternoon, there have been suspicious phone calls made in attempts to collect money on resident electrical service. The Ellwood City Police Department and the Ellwood City Electric Department have received complaints from local residents who have been receiving telephone calls from someone posing as a representative of Ellwood City Electric Department. WAYNE TOWNSHIP — Police have identified James John McDonald, 43, of 1052 Main St., Wampum, as a suspect. McDonald threw an iced tea bottle at an unmarked state police cruiser. Taylor Foley, 21, was placed under arrest by Ellwood City Police for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and Kory Coles, 29, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after a traffic stop led to a car search and field sobriety test.
