144 bricks … not just bricks, but bricks that memorialized the loved ones of Ellwood City Residents were moved from the Ellwood City Hospital site to a new permanent home in Ewing Park. Florida Man Charged With Conspiracy Involving Fraudulent Medicare Claims At Former Ellwood City Medical Center

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was charged in federal court with one count of conspiracy related to the submission of fraudulent Medicare claims at the former Ellwood City Medical Center, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced on Wednesday. Daniel Hurt, 58, was charged by criminal Information with a conspiracy to commit health care fraud, pay and receive unlawful kickbacks, and engage in money laundering. FBI Raids Americore Hospital in Ellwood City

According to a LeeDaily.com article and many local news reports, nearly two dozen FBI agents recently raided Ellwood City Medical Center, the now-closed Pennsylvania hospital owned by Americore Health. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court told WPXI that the agents “carried out boxes and boxes of material from the medical center” late last week. The FBI says that they are conducting law enforcement activities, but at this time the agency is not saying more. Ellwood City Medical Center Pays Off Debts To Borough

As of Tuesday, December 4, the debts to the Borough of Ellwood City have been cleared for the struggling Ellwood City Medical Center. Joe Cioffi, Ellwood City’s interim borough manager, confirmed that two checks had arrived on Tuesday on behalf of the Florida-based company Americore Health LLC, the owner of the medical center, that had paid off the hospital’s existing debt with the borough.
