Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Memorial Exhibit Needs Volunteers

The Ellwood City American Legion Post 157 is preparing to host the Vietnam Moving Wall in Ellwood City on August 17-22, 2022 and is need of volunteers. The Moving Wall is a portable, half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. that has been touring the country for over 30 years. The first organizational meeting for this patriot event will be held at the Ellwood City Historical Society Center, 310 5th Street, Ellwood City. Ellwood City Area Historical Society Offering Scholarship Opportunities

The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching. The deadline is Thursday April 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1,500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible. Applications may be received from the High School Student Guidance Counselor or from the Ellwood City History Center. Historical Society Updates From First Meeting Of 2022

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society held their first general meeting for the year 2022 on Monday January 10th. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag led by Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran. The first order of business was the installation of officers elected in November, led by past president Al Kocher. The new officers, Everett Bleakney, President; Andy Kindle, 1st Vice President; Bob Morabito, 2nd Vice President; Lois Liebendorfer, Secretary; and Charles as Treasurer. Ellwood City Area Historical Society To Hold First Meeting Of 2022

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society is pleased to announce they will hold their first meeting of 2022 Monday, January 10 at 7:00 pm. Officers and board directors that were elected in November 2021, will be installed. The guest speaker for the evening will be Andrew Henley who will speak about “The Foundations of Lawrence County”. Andrew W. Henley is from Edinburg, Mahoning Township, Lawrence County. Henley resides on an eligible Bicentennial Farm, in which his family has resided since 1808. Historical Society Fund Drive – A Success!

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society has had fund drives since the early days of the formation of the Society, 33 years ago, with the purpose of the Society to collect, protect and preserve the artifacts of the history of our town and its surrounding area. “The annual fund drive was becoming less effective in raising money to help cover our operating budget, says fund drive chairman Andrew Kindle. “More money was coming in toward dues payments then donations.” The Ways and Means committee at the monthly meeting in June sat down to discuss the problem of low donations. Ellwood City Historical Society Set to Reveal ‘Champions on Parade’ Nominees

The names of the 70 “Champions on Parade” nominees will be revealed at the Ellwood City Area Historical Society dinner meeting Monday, September 13th, at Connoquenessing Country Club. Nominees who are present will be introduced and presented with a certificate. The dinner will launch a new year for the society which traditionally holds a dinner or picnic to kick off meetings and activities. Ellwood City Historical Society Now Taking Reservations For Annual Fund Drive In September

Dinner reservations are being accepted for the Ellwood City Historical Society’s Annual Fund Drive on Monday, Sept.13, at Connoquenessing Country Club. Menu choices are Tuscan chicken stuffed with ham, spinach and mozzarella cheese in a sun-dried tomato sauce; breaded cod piccata with artichokes, onion, capers and tomato white lemon burre; and sirloin medallions with peppers, onions and mushrooms. EC Historical Society Announces Scholarship Winners

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society awarded its Annual Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarship Awards to Emily Ann Borroni and Hayden Christopher Panek at a meeting Wednesday May 5th. The meeting was opened by Everett Bleakney, president of the Society. He first explained the appreciation of all who had entered essays to be judged. Bleakney stated that the History Society was blessed to be able to continue giving these awards. To date, the History Center has awarded $69,000.00 to deserving graduating students pursuing higher education. Fourth Grade Students Tour Ellwood City History Center

Jonica Walters, Ellwood City Elementary School Teacher, brought the fourth grade students for their first tour and experience at the History Center. The purpose was to promote an understanding and appreciation of the Ellwood City area history. The students were met by tour guide Andy Kindle, first Vice President of the Historical Society. They met in the meeting room of the center that also house numerous pieces of memorabilia and artifacts.
